How Suzanne went from Emotional Reactivity to Calm, Confident and Clear

Why did Suzanne decide to coach with Alex?

When Suzanne reached out to Alex, life felt heavy... not at home, but at work. She was emotionally reactive, overwhelmed, and stuck in a cycle that left her drained. Her natural response to stress was to cry, and in a male-dominated workplace, that reaction felt like a liability.

“I was in a state of being very reactive to everything and anything… and my reaction was to cry.”

It wasn’t a specific event that tipped her over the edge; it was the build-up. But one moment, when she was spoken over in a meeting, brought everything to the surface.

“I didn't actually cry in that meeting in front of everybody. My reaction was to just collect my things...And then I left the room.”

Soon after, she stumbled across Alex’s profile on Facebook — shared by a former colleague. The language about flow, rhythm, and calm, resonated.

“Some of the techniques that you've suggested I use, being in a meeting, taking before responding, taking that time, taking that second to collect my thought process, what's going on, and then be able to respond calmly.”

What did Suzanne take away?

Suzanne came to coaching to build confidence and resilience in her leadership role. But what she found was something more powerful... a deeper understanding of herself, and the tools to show up differently in both her personal and professional life.

Meditation became a big part of her growth, along with emotional regulation tools that helped her respond (rather than react) in challenging situations.

“Some of the techniques that you've suggested I use, being in a meeting, taking before responding, taking that time, taking that second to collect my thought process, what's going on, and then be able to respond calmly.”

Her confidence also shifted. While self-doubt still popped up, she learned how to work with it instead of being consumed by it.

"Those thoughts are still there, but it’s noticing the thought and calling out the thought and saying, okay, let’s just work through this. Is that person really even bothering to spend any time thinking about me? Yeah, probably not. So why am I so head up and caught up with being concerned about what somebody else thinks?"

She also found comfort in Alex’s approach — which blended practical tools with real, human conversations.

“I was also able to open up to you about some really personal stuff that I've not talked to other people about. So, just that level of comfort for me be able to, if I've not talked to anybody else, the fact that I could talk to you about it, and a lot of those issues we explored have come from deep, rooted things”.

What does life look like now?

Suzanne now describes herself as “calmer on the inside.” Her thinking is clearer, her reactions are measured, and her self-talk is far more compassionate.

“Chalk and cheese to what it was. I couldn't have done this without you. I couldn't be this relaxed without you, but relaxed in a good way.”

Work is still demanding, but she no longer lets it throw her off balance. She’s learned to check in with herself, shift perspective, and access flow, even in everyday tasks.

Creativity, which she hadn’t expected to explore in coaching, is now a welcome part of her life, personally and professionally.

The support extended beyond professional growth. Suzanne was able to navigate deeply personal experiences through coaching, which meant she was able to not just handle work situations but also things in her personal life.

“I was also able to open up to you about some really personal stuff that I've not talked to other people about. So, just that level of comfort for me be able to, if I've not talked to anybody else, the fact that I could talk to you about it, and a lot of those issues we explored have come from deep, rooted things”.

“Chalk and cheese to what it was. I couldn't have done this without you. I couldn't be this relaxed without you, but relaxed in a good way.”

If you’re ready to shift from reactivity to calm confidence, coaching with Alex could be your next step.
